Privacy Policy
NearbyRents is a hyperlocal rental marketplace operating in India. This page explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who else can see it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

The short version
We ask for as little as we can. We have no passwords — you sign in with a code sent to your email, or with Google. We show ads through Google AdSense, which sets its own cookies. We never sell your personal data. You can delete your account, and everything on it, from your profile page.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Your email address, which is how you sign in. We send a six-digit code to it. If you use Google Sign-In, Google gives us your email, name and profile picture.
- Your name, and optionally a profile photo, a short bio, and a phone number if you choose to add one.
- Your listings — titles, descriptions, photos, prices, specifications, and the city and state an item is available in.
- Messages you send to other users through the in-app chat.
- Reviews and ratings you leave on listings.
Information we collect automatically
- Your chosen browsing location (a city, a state, or All India). This is a preference you set — we do not read your device GPS unless you explicitly use a “near me” feature and your browser asks you to allow it.
- Usage events: which listings are viewed, saved to a wishlist, or lead to a chat. These are what tell a seller how their listing is doing.
- Technical logs: IP address, browser and device type, and a per-request identifier. These exist to find bugs, block abuse and enforce rate limits.
What we deliberately do not collect
- Passwords. There is no password field anywhere on this site, so there is no password of yours for us to lose.
- Payment card details. We do not process card payments, and no card number ever reaches our servers.
- Your precise location in the background. We never track where you are while you are not using the site.
How we use it

How long we keep it
- Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes and are deleted automatically. They are stored hashed, never in readable form.
- Your account and listings are kept until you delete them.
- Technical logs are kept for a limited period for debugging and abuse investigation, then discarded.
Your rights
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct anything wrong, or delete it.
You can delete your account yourself, from your profile page. For your protection, deletion requires a fresh code sent to your email — the same way signing in does. Deleting your account removes your profile and your listings.
For anything else, write to us at privacy@nearbyrents.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Sign-in codes are hashed with bcrypt and expire. Refresh tokens are httpOnly, so a cross-site script cannot steal your session. Because we hold no passwords, a breach of our database exposes no credential you might have reused elsewhere.
No system is perfectly secure. If you find a vulnerability, please tell us at security@nearbyrents.com rather than disclosing it publicly.
Children
NearbyRents is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will also be notified in the app.
